I've been needing a little case for my iPod since I treat it so terribly...throwing it in my jacket pocket most of the time and then often dropping it at the gym...woops!

I found this pattern on Ravelry by Kayleen Grage using the owl cable pattern originally from Owls by Katie Davies. I've used the owls before in a couple dishcloths I made for the holidays and it's adorable! They will often put little buttons for the eyes, but I decided it might scratch my iPod and kept the owl's eyes mysterious. ; )

You'll need:
Spare yarn from another project
US size 4 dpn's (set of 5)
US size 4 straight needles (for the double knitting)
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker, 2 tiny buttons, sewing thread (optional)

Pattern:
Cast 24 stitches onto size 4 straights.
Double knit for 6 rows: *k1, sl1 pwise* across full row.

Transfer stitches to two dpn's (I hold two dpn's side by side in my right hand, grabbing a knit stitch with one needle, then a slipped stitch with the other, etc.).
Weave in the cast on end. Turn work right side out (for the working. You will actually be knitting the work inside out).

This is what the stitches will look like once split onto two dpns and before you turn the work inside out!

Divide the stitches onto 4 dpn's (6 - 6 - 6 - 6).

Rounds 1 - 3: p2, k8, p2, k to end (all 12 stitches on needles 3 and 4)
Round 4: p2, C4B, C4F, p2, k to end  (knit loosely in the cable)
Rounds 5 - 11: same as round 1
Round 12: same as round 4
Round 13: same as round 1
Rounds 14 - 15: p2, k1, p2, k2, p2, k1, p2, k to end
Rounds 16 - 17: same as round 1
Round 18: same as round 4
Round 19: same as round 1
(If you want to sew on eyes, do it now!)
Round 20 - 24: k all around
Rounds 25 - 31: p1, *k2, p2* around to last stitch, p1 (The number of times you do this is up to you and the length of your iPod)

Bind off in pattern.

Weave in end.

Flip inside out and cozy up your iPod!
