Just to help out with terminology and notation in patterns...I will add to this as the list of patterns grows. I'll also try to regulate the way I notate things as many people have different ways of saying the same thing! Knit away, fellow artistes!

A great place to see videos of certain techniques is Knittinghelp.com (I have put specific links for specific techniques in the Glossary below...they are wonderful teachers!)
p = Purl
k = Knit
( )* = repeat what is within parentheses one time
C#F = Cable Front -
  • Slip half of the number of stitches to be cabled on to the cable needle.
  • Hold cable needle in front of the work and knit remaining stitches off of left hand needle, then knit off of the cable needle.
  • This will make the cable cross left. Sometimes referred to as a Left Cross Cable instead of Cable Front
st = stitch / sts = stitches

sl1 knitwise = slip one stitch knitwise
  • Insert the right needle into the stitch as if to knit, but slip the stitch onto the right needle without wrapping the yarn and pulling through.

Using double pointed needles: watch a(nother) helpful video here. (Scroll to "Small Diameter Circular Knitting, Double Pointed Needles)

C#B = Cable Back
  • Slip half of the number of stitches to be cabled on to the cable needle.
  • Hold cable needle in back of the work and knit remaining stitches off of left hand needle, then knit off of the cable needle.
  • This will make the cable cross right. Sometimes referred to as a Right Cross Cable instead of Cable Back.
Double Knit is a way to knit two sides of a work at one time, it is just a question of knitting one, then slipping one purlwise (this is worked the wrong side out). It is often used to work with two colors or two start two socks at once!
