You'll need:
~100g of Red Heart Soft Yarn in Mid Blue
Scraps of Patons Shetland Chunky Taupe in Bulky (if you want a big, ducky beak like mine has)
Scraps of black yarn for the eyes
1 set (4) double pointed needs in size 7 (4.50mm)
Tapestry needle
Polyester stuffing
1 Stitch marker (optional)

Gauge:
22 sts = 4"; 29 rows = 4" in Stockinette stitch

BIRD
Cast 9 sts onto dpn's. Divide stitches evenly onto 3 needles (3 sts per needle). Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beginning of the round and carry marker up (Or just keep very close count of stitches!)
Rnds 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, & 13: Knit
Rnd 2: * k1, m1k, k2 * rep. twice more (12 sts)
Rnd 4: * k1, m1k, k3 * rep. twice more (15 sts)
Rnd 6: * k1, m1k, k4 * rep. twice more (18 sts). Continue to inc 3 sts in this manner every other round, having 1 more st between incs each time until there are 30 sts on needs (10 per needle).
Rnds 15 - 20: Knit all rounds.
Rnd 21: * ssk, k1, k2tog, k5 * rep. twice more (24 sts)
Rnds 22, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29: Knit.
Rnd 24: * ssk, k1, k2tog, k3 * rep. twice more (18 sts)
Rnd 27: * ssk, k1, k2tog, k1 * rep. twice more (12 sts)
Break off yarn leaving a long tail. Threat tail into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles. Stuff bird firmly (don't worry about shaping yet). Pull up sts and secure. Thread cast-on tail into tapestry needle and thread through cast-on sts. Pull in tightly and secure.

With tapestry needle, using blue, weave yarn in and out of the bird's body about 1/3 way down from the top. Pull in tightly and secure to form the neck.

Wings and Tail (make 3)
with 2 dpn's, using blue, cast on 8 sts
Row 1 & 2: sl1 pwise, knit.
Row 3: sl1 pwise, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (7 sts)
Repeat Row 3 four more times (3 sts).
Break off yarn leaving a long tail. Thread tail into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle. Pull up tightly and secure.

Beak
With 2 dpn's, using gold or tan, cast on 8 sts
Row 1: sl1 pwise, purl.
Row 2. sl1 kwise, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (7 sts)
Row 3: sl1 pwise, purl to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1 (6 sts)
Rep Rows 2 and 3 once more (4 sts).
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle. Pull up tightly and secure.

Finishing
I used the cast on tail to do all of the sewing...Sew the wings onto each side along the neckline. Sew tail to back. Sew beak to the face. Embroider eyes with black.
